Bees for Development Bee Garden Party

Bees for Development is the first charity organisation to set up natural beekeeping to help alleviate some of the worlds poorest families and maintain good habitats for bees. They focus on simple methods of sustainable beekeeping, always using local bees and local materials whilst also helping thousands of poor families across the world to earn an income for basic needs.

Last week, Bees for Development held a Summer Bee Garden Party to celebrate its love for bees and the charity itself. The charity got in touch with us asking if we would like to donate a prize to their raffle. We were more than happy to be involved as caring for bees is a subject very close to our heart in the studio and obviously they inspire so many of Lorna’s designs in the studio. We even have our own product that helps contribute to the life of bees, our Seeds for Bees cards. The cards come with a special mix of wildflower seeds so you can create your own little patch of garden that will make the perfect place for bees to thrive.

We chose to donate one of our best selling Broom & Bee Sky Lampshades, as we thought it would be fitting to send a design with a bee included!

This exclusive garden party had thoughtful messages to convey too, concerning the vital work of Bees for Development, and highlighting our interconnection with bees through food: world food security is reliant on bees and other insect pollinators. This relaxed summer event challenged guests to connect the two: Bees and Food, and to show how we can all make a difference, by the choices we make in our own gardens, and through supporting the charity, to help bees worldwide.

Guests were entertained by bee hives from all around the world, samples of Dr Sara’s latest Bath Potions, honey tasting with The London Honey Company and mead with New Quay Honey Farm. Renowned Chef Elizabeth Parker served fantastic vegan food featuring bee-pollinated delicacies, with sparkling wines, organic gin fizz, mimosa cocktails and honey beer, all with a background of jazz – perfect for a summer’s evening in the grounds of such historic splendour.
