A Handmade Wedding Full of Pattern, Colour and Lorna Syson Details
Those of you who have followed me on social media for a while, especially Pinterest, may remember the pages and pages of wedding inspiration I pinned after getting engaged in April 2013.
On the 3rd of May 2022, all that planning, organising, making and dreaming came together for mine and Neil’s wedding day. It was a truly magical day, filled with family, friends, and so many personal, handmade details. We were also lucky enough to have the lovely Tiz from the studio there to celebrate with us.
As a designer, I knew I wanted our wedding to feel personal, creative and full of colour. It was really important to me that the day reflected who we are, so I couldn’t resist weaving some Lorna Syson designs into the styling.
Handmade Wedding Decorations Using Lorna Syson Fabrics and Designs
I thought I would share some photos from the day, especially those that show how we used Lorna Syson patterns and fabrics throughout the wedding.
Our designs appeared in the bunting, napkins and streamers, which were made from wallpaper offcuts cut into large circles and sewn together. They added colour, texture and a lovely handmade feel to the day, while also giving new life to leftover materials from the studio.
Many of the guests took pieces home, and I’ve since been told there are now several Lorna Syson napkin sets dotted around the UK!
It was so lovely to see my designs used in such a personal way. Over the years, Lorna Syson fabrics and patterns have been used for all sorts of weddings, from handmade table settings and decorative details to bespoke stationery, wedding cards and thoughtful finishing touches.
Wedding Cards, Bespoke Stationery and Personal Details
One of the things I love most about weddings is how the smallest details can help tell a couple’s story.
Whether it’s a beautifully illustrated wedding card, bespoke stationery, handmade decorations, or fabric used in the styling, these little touches can make the whole day feel more personal. For our own wedding, using Lorna Syson prints helped bring colour and meaning into the celebration in a way that felt very us.
My nature-inspired designs work beautifully for weddings, especially for couples who want something creative, thoughtful and a little different. From wedding cards and invitations to table decorations, napkins, bunting and keepsakes, there are so many ways to bring pattern and personality into a wedding day.

A Woodland Ceremony and Yurt Reception
We had our ceremony in the glade at the bottom of Cedar Field, performed by the lovely Jo and Val from The Ceremony Company. They created a fantastic bespoke service based around what felt important to us, which made the ceremony feel really meaningful and personal.
Our reception was held in a beautiful yurt from Cheltenham Yurt Hire, which created such a warm, relaxed and magical atmosphere.
We also had the most gorgeous naked cake, created by Two Cousins Bakery, which fitted perfectly with the handmade, natural feel of the day.
A Very Special Wedding Dress
I felt so special in my bespoke House of Mooshki dress, which included some of the lace from my mum’s wedding dress in the trim. It also had a bright yellow underskirt, which made me smile every time I moved.
It was such a special way to include a family detail while still having a dress that felt completely my own.
Our Wedding Photographer
Our photographer was Alexa Loy, who, in my opinion, is one of the very best wedding photographers there is. She was also Hitched.co.uk’s Breakthrough Wedding Photographer winner in 2012.
We were incredibly lucky to win her competition through Whimsical Wonderland Weddings earlier in the year, and the photos she captured are such a beautiful reminder of the day.
You can see more images from our wedding over on Alexa’s blog.
Bespoke Waitcoat Fabric
Another lovely wedding use of Lorna Syson fabric was for a wedding in Greece, where our Bluebell fabric was made into waistcoats. The fresh blue and white design worked perfectly for the setting, bringing a soft, nature-inspired feel that complemented the beautiful Greek surroundings. It was such a special way to use the fabric, adding something personal, meaningful and a little different to the wedding styling while still feeling elegant and timeless.
Thank You
I also wanted to say a huge thank you to our friends and family. Without their love, support, help and pompom fluffing, none of this would have been possible.
It really was the most wonderful day, and I feel so lucky that we were able to fill it with handmade details, personal touches and some of my own Lorna Syson designs.
