Rupert the oyster catcher is inspired by long walks along the British coastlines and seeing lots of stocky black birds with their bright beaks and legs scuttle along the sand. Oystercatchers are wading birds, found on all beaches in the UK and scour the coast lines looking for food. He feeds on cockles so sometimes has problems if the humans get to them first!
