Perhaps not the most grown up of choices but I love these Lets Make Some Great Art placemats from illustrator and author Marion Deuchars. The initial idea may have been devised to keep children out of mischief whilst their fish fingers baked in the oven but I can certainly see the fun in designing my own pasta shapes, drawing Mona Lisa’s smile and on deciding a meal fit for an alien. Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, tear them off and used them as colourful table mats! What better way to keep the dinner party guests occupied whilst they wait for that pleasing ‘PING’?
