Matching Greeting Cards and Wrapping Paper: Beautiful British Wildlife Designs
Because a beautifully wrapped present deserves a greeting card to match!
I’ve always believed that the wrapping is part of the gift.
There’s something so lovely about receiving a present that’s been carefully wrapped, with beautiful paper, a ribbon and a thoughtfully chosen greeting card.
For me, it’s those little finishing touches that make gift-giving feel extra special.
As an independent British designer, I’ve been creating nature-inspired illustrations since starting Lorna Syson in 2009. My designs celebrate British birds, animals, flowers and the little details of the natural world.
And one of my favourite things is seeing those illustrations brought together across different products.
Many of my designs feature across greeting cards and wrapping paper, making it possible to create beautifully coordinated presents without spending hours searching for something that matches.
So, if you’re looking for matching greeting cards and wrapping paper in the UK, here are some of my favourite ways to make your gifts feel that little bit more personal.
Why Choose Matching Wrapping Paper and Greeting Cards?
I think a beautifully wrapped gift shows someone you’ve put a little extra thought into their present.
And while I love mixing colours and patterns, there’s something particularly satisfying about finding a greeting card that coordinates perfectly with the wrapping paper.
It creates a lovely finished look, especially when you add a simple ribbon or gift tag.
Matching gift wrap and cards are also wonderfully practical.
Rather than searching different shops for designs that work together, you can choose illustrations from the same collection.
Coordinating your greeting card and wrapping paper can help you:
- Create a beautifully presented birthday, Christmas or celebration gift.
- Choose a theme that reflects the recipient’s personality.
- Bring together colours and illustrations for a coordinated look.
- Make even a small present feel thoughtfully chosen.
- Keep a selection of complementary stationery ready for different occasions.
And of course, you don’t have to match everything exactly. Sometimes choosing designs with similar colours or themes can look just as beautiful.
British Bird Wrapping Paper and Matching Greeting Cards

Fern greeting card designed by Lorna Syson.

British birds have always been a huge source of inspiration for my illustrations.
I love their colours, personalities and the way they interact with the plants and flowers around them.
From inquisitive blue tits to tiny wrens and colourful bullfinches, there’s so much beauty to be found in the birds we see every day.
Bird-themed wrapping paper and greeting cards are a lovely choice for nature lovers, gardeners and anyone who enjoys British wildlife.
Watlington: Beautiful bird and wildlife gift wrap

One of my favourite bird-inspired designs is Watlington
The inspiration came from the beautiful native flora and fauna found around the village of Watlington in Oxfordshire. The design combines blue tits, foliage and berries against a beautiful blue background.
I love how the colours work together, with the blue and green complemented by the warm yellow tones of the birds.
You could pair bird-themed wrapping paper with a coordinating greeting card, or choose a complementary design in similar colours.
My wrapping tip: A simple natural-coloured ribbon can look beautiful against a colourful bird illustration.
Animal Wrapping Paper and Greeting Cards for Pet Lovers

Anyone who knows me will know how much I love animals, particularly dogs!
Pets are such an important part of our families, and I think animal illustrations make wonderful greeting cards and gift wrap.
My collection includes dog and cat greeting cards, inspired by the wonderful characters and personalities of our four-legged friends.
Animal-themed cards are particularly lovely for birthdays, thank-you messages and gifts for pet owners.
Matching Animal Designs for Birthdays
If you’re buying a present for someone who loves dogs or cats, choosing animal-themed wrapping paper and a coordinating card is a lovely way to personalise the gift.
You don’t necessarily need an exact match.
You could choose a dog greeting card and pair it with wildlife-inspired wrapping paper in complementary colours.
Or use animal-themed gift wrap with a simple illustrated card.
I think the most important thing is choosing something that reflects the person receiving the gift.
Gift idea: Pair a dog-themed greeting card with a present for a dog lover, such as a personalised pet portrait.
Floral Wrapping Paper and Matching Greeting Cards

Flowers have always been one of my biggest inspirations.
I love their shapes, colours and the way they change throughout the seasons.
Floral greeting cards and wrapping paper are wonderfully versatile because they can be used for so many occasions.
Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, thanking a friend or sending someone a little encouragement, flowers are a lovely way to add colour and personality.

Birthdays are probably one of the occasions when we most often reach for wrapping paper and a greeting card.
And I think there’s something lovely about choosing a design that feels personal to the recipient.
If they love gardening, choose flowers.
If they enjoy birdwatching, look for British bird illustrations.
And if they’re completely obsessed with their dog, an animal-themed card is always a good choice!
Personalised Number Greeting Cards
I also offer made-to-order greeting cards with bespoke number options on selected designs.
These are lovely for milestone birthdays or celebrating a particular age.
You could pair a personalised birthday card with floral or wildlife wrapping paper to create a thoughtful, coordinated present.
It’s a simple way to make a birthday feel extra special.
How to Make Your Gift Wrapping Look Beautiful
You don’t need to be an expert at wrapping presents to create something lovely.
I think the best gift wrapping is often quite simple.
Here are a few of my favourite ideas.
1. Choose a Colour Theme
Pick one or two colours from your wrapping paper and repeat them in your ribbon, gift tag or greeting card.
For example, a blue bird design might look lovely with a soft green ribbon.
2. Mix Matching and Complementary Designs
You don’t have to use identical patterns.
Sometimes a floral card and bird wrapping paper can work beautifully together because they share colours or a nature-inspired theme.
3. Keep Ribbons Simple
When the wrapping paper already has a detailed illustration, I often prefer a plain ribbon.
It allows the artwork to remain the focus.
4. Add a Thoughtful Gift Tag
A coordinating gift tag is a lovely finishing touch.
Even a simple handwritten tag can make a present feel more personal.
5. Don’t Forget the Message Inside
However beautiful the wrapping paper and greeting card might be, I think the words written inside are what make a gift truly special.
A thoughtful handwritten message can mean so much.
Why Choose British-Designed Greeting Cards and Wrapping Paper?
When I founded Lorna Syson in 2009, I wanted to create illustrations inspired by the natural world around me.
Over the years, those designs have grown into collections of greeting cards, wrapping paper, fabrics, wallpapers and home accessories.
Today, I design from my studio in South Oxfordshire, taking inspiration from countryside walks, British wildlife and the flowers growing in gardens.
I love creating designs that celebrate the everyday beauty of nature.
And I particularly love knowing that my illustrations are used to mark birthdays, celebrate friendships and make thoughtful gifts feel even more special.
Choosing greeting cards and wrapping paper from an independent British designer is a lovely way to support a small creative business while finding something distinctive.
