Bringing It Back Home: A New Chapter for the Studio

Until 2018, everything was run from my studio. I had a lovely setup at Cockpit Arts in Deptford, supported by a brilliant team. Alex had been with me for years and was in charge of dispatch — an absolute superstar who kept everything running smoothly.

Then in 2020, right at the start of lockdown, my printers went out of business. With just a couple of weeks’ notice, all of my stock was returned to me and ended up stored in our completely unsuitable garage. Thankfully, the weather was kind during lockdown, but it quickly became clear that I needed a more sustainable, long-term solution.

At the same time, orders were incredibly busy — one of those unexpected lockdown surges — and my husband was very much drafted in to help with packing and dispatch!

After some searching, I found a warehouse team in Swansea, and for the past five years, they’ve been handling all of my dispatch. During that time, life changed in the most wonderful way, too, with the arrival of my two children. Having that support in place allowed me to keep the business running while navigating a very full and busy home life.

A New Chapter for the Studio

At the end of 2025, we built a studio in the garden, and in April 2026, everything came back from Wales and into the new space. It feels like such a full-circle moment — bringing the business back home again, but in a way that works for how life looks now.

Over the years, the business has evolved alongside changing economies and retail patterns. Many of the lovely independent shops I’ve worked with have moved on to new things, and the demands of the business have shifted too — particularly when it comes to packing and dispatch.

Now, I’m focusing more on building connections locally here in Oxfordshire, much like I did in South East London. I’m planning to take part in more local shows, host open studio events, run Christmas shopping days, and offer a simple click-and-collect option from the studio.

There’s still work to do — especially in the garden, which I’d love to make more welcoming and inviting — but it feels like the start of a really exciting new chapter.
